GREENSBURG, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team continued their strong start to AMCC play, by improving to 4-0, adding two victories on Tuesday, at Pitt-Greensburg. Their offense produced 26 runs, on the day, winning 9-7 in Game One and 17-9 in Game Two.
GAME 1
- Mount Aloysius struck first, right out of the gate. After a leadoff out, the next four batters reached base while three of them scored.Â
Brayden Lackey (New Cumberland, PA, Cedar Cliff) drove in the first two runs with a double andÂ
Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood) drove him in with a follow-up single, making it 3-0 Mounties, heading to the home half of the first frame.
- The Bobcats answered back in the bottom of the frame, as they tallied seven hits, leading to four runs. The big blow coming on a two-out, three-run homerun, putting the Bobcats ahead. Following the homerun, UPG loaded the bases on three consecutive singles, but were unable to push across another run. 4-3 Pitt-Greensburg.
- After a scoreless second inning, Lackey drove in another two runs in the top of the third inning with a double, putting Mount Aloysius back in the lead, 5-4.
- In the fourth inning, the Mounties added a sixth run, as they loaded the bases, with one out.Â
Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) hit a sacrifice fly to bring homeÂ
Jared Houser (State College, PA, State College) from third base, giving them a 6-4 lead.
- Pitt-Greensburg tallied the only two hits in the next inning and a half, as it was still 6-4 heading to the sixth. The Mounties then scored three runs in the top of the sixth, while only producing two hits. Emert picked up the only RBI of the inning, as he drove in Iellimo, with a single.
- To respond, the Bobcats scored three runs on four hits, in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the deficit to 9-7. They also chased the Mountie starter, with only one out in the inning.Â
Douglas Cannon (Valencia, PA, Mars Area) came in to record the final five outs and earn his sixth save of the season, as he went 1.2 innings and only allowed one hit.
GAME 2
- Pitt-Greensburg struck first in the second game, loading the bases with no outs in the first inning, only to see one run score.
- After no action in the second inning, the Mounties put up a crooked number in the third, scoring five runs. Iellimo drove in the first run, with a single to plate
Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star). Emert picked up the second RBI, as he was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.Â
Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) hit a sacrifice fly to right field, to drive in the third run. Mount Aloysius picked up another walk to load the bases again, with two outs.Â
Jared Houser (State College, PA, State College) singled to center field on a 1-1 pitch, driving home two runs, making it 5-1 Mounties.
- UPG added a run to their total in the bottom of the third, as a leadoff error allowed the runner on, who would later come around to score.
- Two hits and two errors led to three Mountie runs in the fourth inning.Â
Cody Smith (Loysville, PA, West Perry) and Lackey picked up RBIs in the inning, with the third run coming on an error.
- Three Bobcat hits led to a single marker in the their half of the fourth, cutting the deficit to five, 8-3.
- Mount Aloysius added two, two-out hits, in the fifth, to add another run. Emert singled to drive home Iellimo, making the score, 9-3.
- In the sixth inning, Mount Aloysius added another run, asÂ
Aidan Bell (Woodbridge, VA, Prince William County) led off the inning with a single.Â
Ryan Leonard (James Creek, PA, Tussey Mountain) brought Bell home from third, on an RBI groundout to second base.
- The Bobcat hitters responded in the bottom half, as they had three hits which helped to score two runs in the frame. A leadoff error also came around to score, prior to an inning-ending double play.
- Both teams exploded in the seventh inning, as the Mounties began with six runs in the top half of the inning. The six runs were produced with only two hits. Mountie batters were walked five times in the inning and one batter was hit. Emert earned the only RBI hit of the inning, when he drove in two runs with a double.
- Pitt-Greensburg had four runners cross the plate, only having two hits. The first two hitters of the inning walked, putting runners on base. The two hits in the inning were both RBI singles.
- Mount Aloysius scored the final run of the game, in their half of the eighth, as Brown scored on an error by the leftfielder. Mountie reliever,
Austin Steedle (Gibsonia, PA, Hampton), finished off the game, holding the Bobcats scoreless in the final two innings.
Highlights
- Both Emert and Lackey drove in six runs on the day. Lackey drove in four in Game One, while Emert drove in four in the back end of the doubleheader.
- Each of the two Mountie starters made it into the sixth inning, withÂ
Dylan Coyle (Canonsburg, PA, Canon-McMillan) getting through 5.1 innings andÂ
Creek Miller (Lakewood, OH, Lakewood) getting through six full innings, in Game Two.
- Steedle made his first appearance of the year, out of the bullpen, throwing three innings and only allowing one earned run.
- Mount Aloysius produced their highest run total, in a single-game this season, in Game Two, as they scored 17 runs. They had scored 15 runs on two previous occasions, this spring.

Mount Aloysius is set to host Alfred State, this Saturday, in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM. This will be the first time the two teams have met since the 2019 AMCC Tournament. They met in the opening series, using all three games. Mount Aloysius won games two and three, to win the series, by identical scores of 14-13. Game three went 11 innings.
