Mounties Fall in Season Opener at Wells

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Friday, the Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team opened up their season, when they traveled to take on the Wells Express. Wells would outscore the Mounties, 9-7, to earn the victory.

Leaders
- Maddie Waite (New Oxford, PA, New Oxford) led all players with six goals in the match.
- The Mounties leader in ground balls, Courtney Vought (Somerset, PA, Somerset), had five, which was a team-high.
- Zoe Swank (Romeoville, IL, Romeoville) was in goal for the Mounties, registering five saves.

How It Happened
- Mount Aloysius started off the scoring, with Waite scoring her first goal of the season, a little over three minutes into the game.
- Following the first goal, the teams traded goals, until it was 3-3. The second goal for the Mounties was scored by Clara Larios (Laurel, MD, Laurel), which was her first career collegiate goal. Waite also added the third goal.
- The Express scored three of the final four goals of the first half, taking a 5-4 lead into the break.
- Wells added to their lead, scoring four goals to open the second half, compared to the Mounties' one goal (M. Waite).
- Waite added two more goals in the final five minutes, but the Mounties could not overcome the deficit, falling 9-7.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius outshot the Express, 42-22, but the Wells goalie registered 21 saves, turning away many of the Mountie shots.
- The Mounties also had an advantage getting 14 free position shots, compared to only eight for the express.
- Wells registered almost twice as many ground balls, finishing with a 27-15 difference.

Up Next
The Mounties will get back on the road, on Thursday, when they travel to face La Roche University. The Redhawks are currently 0-1, as both teams will be seeking their first win of the season.
