ERIE, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Softball team traveled to Penn State Behrend, to take on the Lions, in the final two regular season games of 2021. Penn State Behrend came into the day in a tie for first place in the AMCC. The Mounties fell in Game One, 10-6, and in Game Two, 4-1.
GAME 1
- PSB jumped ahead first, in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on four hits. They added two more runs in the bottom of the second, stretching their lead to 5-0.
- In the top of the third inning, the Mounties added a crooked number to the board.Â
Lydia DeFazio (Harrison City, PA, Penn Trafford) drove home the first run on a single, scoringÂ
Kayla Diehl (Schellsburg, PA, Chestnut Ridge) from second base.Â
Alexa Nagy (Apollo, PA, Kiski Area) followed that up with a single, scoring
Abby Reitz (Greencastle, PA, Greencastle Antrim).Â
Lexi Wilt (Shanksville, PA, Shanksville-Stonycreek) drove home DeFazio, for the third run of the frame, with a groundout to second base. The Mounties cut the lead to 5-3.
- After allowing the Lions to score a run, the Mounties again pushed multiple runs across. Reitz tripled to centerfield, which drove in two runners. Reitz then scored when DeFazio hit a sacrifice fly, tying the game, 6-6.
- Both teams went scoreless, until the bottom of the sixth, as Penn State Behrend used four hits and a walk to score four runs. The momentum shift late in the game gave the Mounties a 10-6 defeat.
GAME 2
- In the second game, both teams got out to slow starts, only seeing one total hit in the first inning and a half. PSB scored the first markers of the game, in their half of the second, as they used three hits to push across two runs, giving them a 2-0 lead.
- Mount Aloysius threatened, in the fourth inning, loading the bases with only one out. However, they could not push across a run, making one out at home plate on a fielder's choice and a groundout for the third out.
- Penn State Behrend scored two runs in the fifth, as a one-out triple drove in the first run, and a sac fly by the next batter drove in the second. 4-0 Lions.
- The Mounties scored their lone run of the game, in the top of the sixth, when Nagy doubled to drive home DeFazio, with only one out. Mount Aloysius would fail to record another hit in the contest, falling 4-1.
HIGHLIGHTS
- DeFazio notched four hits on the day, including three hits in Game One. She also scored a run and drove in two runs, in the first game.
- In the two-spot, Reitz scored two runs and drove in two more, in Game One, while tallying one hit. She also had a hit in Game Two.
- Nagy andÂ
Makayla Weyant (Bedford, PA, Chestnut Ridge) eached picked up a hit in both games. Nagy drove in one of the six Mountie runs, in Game One.
UP NEXT
Mount Aloysius will await their AMCC Tournament opponent, which will be decided on Sunday, based on the outcome of the final regular season contests. However, the three-game series, will be played, on Sunday, May 9, beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Mounties finished third in the AMCC regular season standings, with a 9-7 record in AMCC play. The 4, 5, 6, and 7 seeds will all be determined on Sunday.
