Four Mounties Earn All-AMCC Baseball Accolades

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Friday, the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference released their annual All-Conference teams, for baseball. Four Mountie baseball players made the list, as two, Douglas Cannon and Jeremy Iellimo, earned Second Team recognition and two, Brayden Lackey and Ryan Leonard, were placed on the Third Team.

Douglas Cannon (Valencia, PA, Mars Area) made the list, on the Second Team, as a relief pitcher. Cannon made an impact on the Mountie pitching staff from the closer role, most of the year. Cannon made 14 total appearances, two of which were starts, on his way to a 1-2 record. He finished the season with seven saves, which was tops in the AMCC, as well as placing him 12th in NCAA Division III. He threw 30.2 innings, good for third on the team, behind two starters. In his third full season at Mount Aloysius, Cannon earned his first All-AMCC choice this year.

Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) was selected as the Second Team pick at second base. As a sophomore, in 2019, he was also named to the Second Team. Iellimo led the team in 2021, with a .362 batting average. He produced a team-high, 38 hits, in addition to a .500 on-base percentage. Of regular starters, he had an impressive OPS of .948, good for the team lead. Iellimo went 13-for-14 in stolen base attempts, tying him for the fourth-best mark in the AMCC. In 114 career games, Iellimo has tallied 131 hits, 105 runs, and 65 RBIs.

Brayden Lackey (New Cumberland, PA, Cedar Cliff) was picked as the Third Team first basemen, making his first appearance on the All-AMCC list. Lackey found a home in the cleanup spot of the Mountie order, for most of the year, leading the team with 31 RBIs. His RBI total also ranked him fifth in the AMCC. Lackey produced a .460 OBP, which came in part, thanks to an AMCC-leading 27 walks. In addition to leading the AMCC, Lackey found himself on the national list, ranking in the top 50 in Division III.

Also earning his first All-AMCC recognition, was outfielder, Ryan Leonard (James Creek, PA, Tussey Mountain). Leonard held the second-highest average on the team (.325), in the second-most at-bats. He finished the season with a 4-for-5 performance against, eventual-AMCC Champion, Penn State Behrend. Leonard also added an eight-game hitting streak, during the first eight conference games. In the outfield, he did not make an error, in addition to throwing out three base runners, good for a 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Mounties finished the 2021 season with a 19-14 overall record, going 11-5 in AMCC play. While earning the third-seed in the AMCC tournament, they were ousted in the semi-final round by Penn State Behrend. With much of their roster coming back in 2022, they will add on to their strong 2021 campaign.
