Mounties Race Past Lions, Improve to 2-0 in AMCC

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Wednesday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team hosted Penn State Altoona in an AMCC matchup, both heading into the game at 1-1 in AMCC play. The Mounties started out hot and never stopped, sweeping the Lions in three sets.

Leaders
- Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, Pa. / Northern Cambria) and Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) each had a team-high, nine kills. Parrish finished with game-high, three aces, while Richards had a game-high, 25 digs.
- Setter, Emma Colyer (Orlando, Fla. / Olympia), dished out a team-high, 19 assists.
- Lexington Koeck (Sidman, Pa. / Forest Hills) and Kiersten Szpala (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) both led the Mounties with three blocks a piece.

How It Happened
- After dropping the first two points of the match, the Mounties ripped off 13 of the next 16 points, grabbing a 13-5 lead. They held a solid lead, pushing it to 21-12, following a Sydney Lechner (Bellwood, Pa. / Bellwood-Antis) ace. While the Lions outscored the Mounties, 9-4, to finish the set, it was not enough, as the Mounties took a 1-0 lead, 25-21.
- Mount Aloysius totally dominated the second set. While going 11-for-12 on sideout opportunities, they also hit .214 and limited the Lions to -.161 hitting, to win 25-11.
- In the third set, the Mounties jumped ahead, scoring the first four points. Penn State Altoona would come back to tie the set at 6, shortly after. With the game tied at nine, the Mounties took control, outscoring the Lions, 16-7. Emily Henry (Carrolltown, Pa. / Cambria Heights) tallied a team-high, three kills, during the stretch, as the Mounties finished off the match, 25-16.

Into the Box Score
- Mount Aloysius held advantages in most categories, on Wednesday. In hitting, they had 40 kills compared to only 25 Lions kills. They also hit .230 while the Lions hit .008, having only one more kill than error in the match.
- The Mounties also had advantages in blocks (6-3) and aces (8-3).
- Five different Mounties hit .200 or better on the game, led by Henry who hit .462, with eight kills on just 13 swings.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius will play one more home game, this week, before heading back on the road next week. The Mounties will host Alfred State, on Saturday, which has been tabbed as the AMCC Game of the Week.
- Alfred State comes into the matchup having won eight straight contests. During that stretch, they have only lost two total sets. They beat Penn State Behrend, on Wednesday, 3-0.
- The Mounties are 1-4 all-time against The Pioneers. Their only win came back in 2019, when they won, 3-0, in Cresson.
