Champs Again! Men's Soccer Wins AMCC Title Over Penn State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's soccer team was crowned AMCC champion again Saturday afternoon at No.1-seeded Penn State Behrend, winning 1-1 (5-4 in penalty kicks). Goalkeeper Luke Priestley (Edlesborough, England, Aylesbury Grammar School) caused the crucial Penn State Behrend miss on the second penalty kick at the end of the game, while Luke Traynor (London, England, Woodhouse College) converted the Mounties' fifth straight penalty kick to secure the title.

Leaders
- Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France, Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) provided the goal for the Mounties - his sixth of the season.
- Goalkeeper Priestley tallied seven saves, in addition to preventing the second Penn State Behrend penalty kick.
- Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas), Rhett Pletcher (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood), Bez, Liam Craw (Palmerston North New Zealand, Freyberg High School), and finally, Traynor all converted their penalty kicks to give the Mounties the win.
- Tevin Beadle (Kingston, Jamaica, St. George's College) recorded the assist on Bez's first half goal.

How It Happened
- After both teams traded several shot attempts in the opening portion of the game, the Mounties' Bez scored first at the 22-minute mark on a slip pass in the box by Beadle for a 1-0 lead. Penn State Behrend led in shots after the first half, 7-3, but the Mounties held the Lions scoreless, heading into the break with a 1-0 advantage.
- In the second period, Penn State Behrend evened the score with a goal in the 64th minute to make it 1-1. Penn State Behrend continued to control play, taking 17 additional shots in the second half, but Goalie Priestley and Mount Aloysius held strong, and regulation ended in a 1-1 draw.
- Neither team scored in the two ten-minute overtime periods, meaning the game would be decided in a penalty shootout.
- Behrend started the penalty kicks with a make, before Camacho stepped up for the Mounties and converted his attempt. Then, Priestley and the Mounties got the crucial miss from Behrend's Blake Cooper. Pletcher, Bez, and Craw all knocked in their penalty kicks, alternating with the Behrend players, maintaining the one-shot edge going into the final kick. Traynor then found the back of the net, giving the Mounties the 5-4 penalty kick victory and the AMCC tournament championship, their second in two years.

Into the Box Score
- Penn State Behrend finished with 28 shots compared to Mount Aloysius' seven. The Mounties were a lot more accurate, however, with six-of-seven shots on goal compared to eight shots on goal for the Lions.
- Just one foul separated the teams, with Mount Aloysius recording 14 and Behrend,15.
- The Mounties had seven saves to the Lions' five saves.
