Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mounties Conclude Non-Conference Slate at Catholic

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team wrapped up the fall portion of their schedule, concluding on Tuesday with the second day of the Catholic Basketball Invitational. They played Catholic on Monday, before playing Southern Virginia on Tuesday.

Leaders
- Will Hagwood (Willowick, Oh. / South) led the Mounties in scoring and rebounding, in both contests. He produced 11 points and six rebounds, on Monday, following that with 19 points and 10 rebounds, on Tuesday.
- Alphonso Morrow (Baltimore, Md. / Parkville) had the only other double-digit scoring game for Mount Aloysius, scoring 11 points against Southern Virginia.

How It Happened
Game 1 vs. Catholic
- Despite falling behind by 10 points in the first eight minutes, the Mounties fought to keep the game within reach, cutting the Cardinal lead to six, with 7:28 to go in the first half. Following a Catholic timeout, the game would get out of hand, as the home team went on a 27-4 run to finish the period. The Cardinals held a 50-21 advantage.
- Catholic would go on and not relinquish any piece of the lead, as 29 points was the closest Mount Aloysius would get in the second half. The Mounties did make significant improvements by shooting 54.2% from the field in the half and 30% from three, but ultimately fell, 100-57.

Game 2 vs. Southern Virginia
- Southern Virginia jumped ahead in the second game, quickly, going on a 10-0 run to take a 12-2 lead. After trading baskets, the Mounties then went on a 14-2 run, to take an 18-16 lead. The back and forth did not stop there, as the lead changed hands five more times in the first half alone. The final change of the half came on a basket by the Knights, with 1:19 left, giving them a 28-27 advantage heading into the break.
- In the second half, SVU scored the first six points to open up a seven point advantage. Mount Aloysius followed that by scoring the next nine points, taking a 36-34 lead. Both teams would stay close, with neither team leading by more than three points as they saw a 53-53 stalemate with 4:37 remaining. However, over the final four-plus minutes, the Mounties would be outscored, 20-1. The Knights missed just one shot and one free throw during the stretch, to down the Mounties handily, 73-54.

Into the Box Scores
- The turnover bug killed the Mounties, as they had a minus-31 turnover margin for the two games. Their opponents only committed 20 combined turnovers.
- Mount Aloysius out-rebounded their opponents, in both games. They had a 31-30 advantage in the loss to Catholic and a 48-40 advantage against SVU.
- Both opponents had different production levels from behind the three-point line against the Mounties. On Monday, Catholic shot 56.7% from three, making 17 of their 30 attempts, both of which were season-highs. Then, on Tuesday, the Knights did not make a three-point basket, going an icy, 0-for-16.

Up Next
- With the conclusion of the official non-conference slate, the Mounties will head home for Christmas. After the holiday, they will head back on the road, first for an exhibition game at Notre Dame College.
- Following the exhibition game, the Mounties are set to open AMCC-play, on January 4, at Penn State Behrend.
