ALFRED, N.Y. -- In a hard fight to the last buzzer, Mount Aloysius was edged by host Alfred State University, 72-70, Saturday afternoon.

Carlos Palacio (Bilbao, Spain, Phelps School) scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting and also grabbed six rebounds.

Rafael Ibáñez Medina (Mexico City, Mexico, Canarias Basketball Academy) and
Mike Harris (Hampton, Va., Peninsula Catholic) were the other Mounties in double figures, each adding 12 points. Harris also dished out a team-high five assists.
How It Happened
- After the first five minutes, the game was tied, 7-7. The Mounties then went on a 11-2 run to open up a lead, 18-9. Alfred State responded with a run of their own, scoring 14 unanswered points, to give them a five-point advantage, 23-18.
- Palacio responded with a dunk and a jumper to get the Mounties back within one point at the six-minute mark, 23-22. Three minutes later,
Jason Coronado (Orlando, FL, Ocoee) got the score back to even with a three-pointer to make it 25-25. Over the final minutes of the half, the game stayed close and it finished tied again, 34-34.
- In the early part of the second half, the game stayed within one possession, with neither team able to gain a significant advantage. However, led by more strong play by Palacio, the Mounties gained some traction and earned a seven-point lead at the 14:44 mark, 50-43.
- The Mounties maintained the slight advantage over the next segment of the game, even stretching the margin to nine points, 64-55, at the 7:32 mark. But during the final portion of the game, Alfred State chipped away at the lead and eventually took over at the 1:14 mark, 69-68.
- In the last minute, Alfred State went up 70-68 on a free throw.
Mike Harris replied with a layup to tie the game, 70-70. However, there was still 25 seconds remaining and time for Alfred State to set up a play. Alfred State's Basheem Wilkerson nailed the winning shot, edging the Mounties 72-70.
