How It Happened
Game One
- Following a scoreless first inning, Mount Aloysius got on the board first.Â
Joshua Brown (Manassas, VA, Osbourn Park) andÂ
Jackson Kozlovac (Portage, Pa., Portage) both reached base on walks. With two outs,Â
Tyler Suder (Boswell, PA, North Star) singled to left center to drive in Brown, giving the Mounties a 1-0 lead.
- Lagnese kept the Phoenix off the board again in the second. The Mounties then used three hits in the top of the third inning, to set up scoring two runs.Â
Troy Emert (Rockwood, PA, Rockwood) delivered the big hit, driving in a run with a double and moving a runner to third base with less than two outs. Kozlovac used a ground ball to push the run across, giving the Mounties a 3-0 advantage.
- Mount Aloysius kept up the scoring, as they got another two-out hit, this time from Peck, to drive in a run. Suder reached base to leadoff the inning by getting hit by a pitch.
- Wilson scored their first run, in the fifth inning, having their first two batters get hits. An errant throw allowed the first runner to score. 4-1 Mounties.
- The Phoenix gave the Mounties the run back, in the sixth, as they committed two errors. The Mounties scored the run without having a hit or walk in the frame.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Wilson used three, two-out hits, including a homerun, to cut the Mountie lead to 5-4.
- For the teams' final at-bats, Mount Aloysisu went 1-2-3, and the Phoenix got a runner to third base, but Cannon recorded a strikeout looking to end the threat and give the Mounties the win.
Game Two
- Wilson struck first in the second game, with three of their first four hitters picking up singles. The third single pushed the first runner across, giving them a 1-0 advantage.
- In the top of the third, the Mounties tied the game up. With two outs,Â
Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa., Derry) walked andÂ
Jeremy Iellimo (Arnold, PA, Valley Area) was hit by a pitch, giving them two runners on. Bell followed them with a single, allowing Bushey to score.
- Flash to the top of the fifth, The Mounties pushed the first two runs in on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly, giving them a 3-1 lead. Bell then added a two-out bomb to make it 4-1. The homerun was his fifth of the season.
- While the Mounties were held off the scoreboard, for the rest of the game, the Phoenix made it interesting. They added a run in the bottom of the sixth, cutting the lead to 4-2. In the seventh, they had a leadoff homer, making it a one-run game. After a hit and an error, giving them two runners on with one out, Cannon got two straight pop-ups to end the threat and secure the victory.
