Mounties Swept by Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's volleyball team played three tight sets against host Geneva College but ultimately fell 3-0 Wednesday evening.

Leaders
- Ashlee Parrish (Northern Cambria, PA, Northern Cambria) continued her strong season with a team-high nine kills and also added eight digs.
- Kadence Della Valle (Carrolltown, Pa., Cambria Heights) tallied the most digs for the Mounties with eleven and had two aces.
- Emily Henry (Carrolltown, PA, Cambria Heights) and Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) each recorded five kills.
- Sydney Lechner (Bellwood, PA, Bellwood-Antis) dished out six assists, while leading the team with three aces. Emma Colyer (Orlando, FL, Olympia)and Kiersten Szpala (Ebensburg, PA, Central Cambria) both contributed six assists.
- Matie Rupp (York, PA, West York) was second in digs, finishing with nine on the night. 

How It Happened
- In the first set, Mount Aloysius built an early lead and held it for a good portion of the set. The Mounties even led by five points, 18-13, and then 19-14. However, Geneva inched closer and eventually tied the set at 22. The Mounties took the lead again, 23-22, before Geneva reeled off three straight points to snatch away the opening set, 25-23.
- The Mounties again started strong in Set 2 and eventually held a seven-point advantage, 17-10. Geneva fought back and tied the game at 20. After both teams exchanged leads, Mount Aloysius strung together three points to give it set point, 24-22. But the Mounties could not close it out, with Geneva going on a 4-0 run to take the second set, 26-24, and overall 2-0 lead.
- Mount Aloysius was even in the opening part of the third set, 9-9, before Geneva scored five unanswered points to go ahead 14-9. The Mounties continued to fight and were down just by two points, 17-15. The points went back-and-forth as the set reached the later stages but the Mounties were unable to produce a significant run and would fall 25-19, and 3-0 overall.

Into the Box Score
- The Mounties had 12 kills and just two errors in the first set.
- Mount Aloysius led in digs, 42 to Geneva's 39.

Up Next 
- The Mounties have a big weekend coming up when they compete in doubleheaders on both Friday and Saturday at the Allegheny Gator Invitational. They open against host Allegheny College on Friday at 5 p.m.
