Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mounties Upended in First Game of Season at Bethany, 2-1

CRESSON, Pa. -- On Thursday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team opened their season, on the road, at Bethany. They played the Bison tough, but ultimately fell, 2-1.

Leaders
- Rhett Pletcher (Rockwood, Pa. / Rockwood) led the Mounties by scoring his first goal of the campaign, which would be the team's only goal.
- Goalie, Luke Priestley (Edlesborough, England / Aylesbury Grammar School), tied for a game-high, three saves, but took the loss and played all 90 minutes.

How It Happened
- The home team came out of the gate early and made a statement. Bethany scored in the fourth minute, giving them an early 1-0 lead.
- Bethany would add a second goal, following an offsides call on the Mounties, around the 19 minute mark, adding to their lead.
- With just under five minutes remaining, the Mounties got a free kick, allowing Pletcher to come up and help the offense. The kick found Pletcher in the box where he finished it off, cutting the Bison lead to 2-1.
- During the second half, the Mounties only registered two shots on goal, which both were saved by the Bison goalkeeper. Bethany did not add any tallies either, but it didn't matter, as they won the match, 2-1.

Into the Box Score
- In a team comparison, many stats were very similar. Bethany held an advantage in shots, 10-8 (5-4 shots on goal), and each team had three saves and four corner kicks. The Mounties did commit five more fouls than the Bison, but the Bison had four yellow cards, compared to only one yellow card for the Mounties.

Up Next
- The Mounties will travel to Lebanon Valley, on Sunday, as part of the Brothers Pizza Blue Jay Classic, hosted by Elizabethtown. Mount Aloysius will also play Elizabethtown, on Monday.
- Both of the Mounties' opponents for the weekend started 0-1 on Thursday. LVC lost to 19th-ranked, Franklin & Marshall, 2-1, while Elizabethtown fell to York (Pa.), 2-1.
