CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team won their first game of the season, on Saturday, and improved to 1-1 in AMCC play. The Mounties topped Pitt-Bradford, 78-69.

Karissa Mercier (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom)Â led a group of five Mounties that scored in double-figures, scoring 18 points and pulling down nine rebounds. She also dished out a game-high, six assists.

Hailey Drutarosky (Freedom, Pa. /Â Sewickley Academy)Â added 14 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
How It Happened
- The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, as each team led multiple times in a 17-16 period. Pitt-Bradford held the lead going 5-for-19 from the field, while Mount Aloysius went 4-for-11.
- In the second quarter, the Mounties took some control. They scored six straight points to grab a five point lead on three layups, two from Drutarosky and another from
Chloe Clemons (Kailua, Hawaii /Â Kalaheo). A Panther three-pointer cut the lead to two with 4:03 to go in the half. Mount Aloysius scored the next 13 points to take a 37-22 lead before a Panther free throw to end the half's scoring. The Mounties held a 37-23 advantage at the break.
- While the Mounties started strong and opened the lead up to 19, the Panthers battled back. UPB outscored the Mounties 24-11 to cut the lead to six, over the final seven-plus minutes of the quarter. Heading to the final period, the Mounties held a 54-48 advantage.
- Mount Aloysius came out on fire in the fourth quarter, making their first five shots. Clemons, Drutarosky, and Mercier all made three point field goals, while Mercier and
Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples)Â each added baskets, driving the lead up to 17.
- While the Panthers made a push over the closing minutes, a set of free throws with 11 seconds left cut the lead into single digits and it would be the closest that they got. The Mounties improved to 1-1 in AMCC play with the 78-69 victory.
Into the Box Score
- The Mounties had their best offensive game of the season, eclipsing 70 points for the first time this year. They also had their highest shooting percentage (46.3%) and three-point percentage (50%).
- Both teams shot numerous free throws, but shot solid percentages. The Mounties went 21-for-30, both season high's. Pitt-Bradford went 22-for-31 for 71%.

- Mount Aloysius will travel to La Roche, on Wednesday night, to take on the conference leading Redhawks.
