Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Mountie Season Ends at AMCC Tournament

Wexford, Pa. -- Kendra Sines (Somerset, PA, Somerset) played her last career matches for Mount Aloysius this Saturday, October 14th, as the Mounties fell to top seed Pitt-Greensburg.

Doubles:

- Sines partnered with freshman Caylie Conlon (New Paris, PA, Chestnut Ridge) at the one doubles spot, where the two would play a fast-paced match with heavy groundstroke exchanges from baseline to baseline. Despite maintaining steady net control throughout the match, the Mounties struggled deep into rallies as their opponents stayed defensive, fighting off most poaches and approaches from Sines and Conlon with sharp passing shots.
- Three doubles saw an entirely different pace of play despite similar strategic ends; slow lob exchanges played into the Bobcat's wheelhouse as freshmen duo Lauryn Kitchen (Clearfield, PA, Clearfield) and Maria Runk (Broad Top, PA, Tussey Mountain ) struggled to find volley opportunities in rally before giving up a put away chance to their opponents.
- Two doubles team Julia Davis (Mount Pleasant, PA, Southmoreland ) and Kierra Mountain (Roaring Spring, PA, Central) had the most success for the Mounties on the scorecards, using lob-drive combos to open up volleying opportunities against the lefty-righty team from Pitt-Greensburg. However, the forehand outside set up from the Bobcats limited Mountie poach opportunities as Davis and Mountain found themselves burned down the line when overextending, and the top seeds would seal the doubles sweep with the 8-3 victory.

Singles:

- One singles played out similar to one doubles, with Sines's offensive playstyle struggling against her opponent's defense, and any drop in pace was immediately punished by the Bobcats' top player. Despite extended exchanges from deep in the court, Sines was unable to find her way to favored positions in the forecourt, passed on anything but the deepest approach balls.
- Mountain's two singles match played out the same on the scorecards, with inverted styles. Mount Aloysius's defensive minded style at the flight went up against a player comfortable moving forward with hard, flat strokes. Despite some successes attacking the second serve, Mountain's pace production was unable to move the Bobcat around the court enough, and Pitt-Greensburg picked up their fifth win.
- As postseason matches are played to decision, the remaining four singles matches would go unfinished.
