Mounties Ground Red Hawks, Advance to AMCC Semifinals

Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's soccer advanced to the AMCC semifinal with a 3-1 defeat of La Roche this Saturday, October 28th.

How It Happened:

- La Roche opened the game with aggression, pushing play into the Mountie defensive end from the first minute.
- After weathering six Red Hawk shot attempts inside the twenty minutes of play, Mount Aloysius saw Jasmine Hinton (Huntingtown, MD, Huntingtown) put one in to give the hosts a 1-0 lead on just their second shot attempt of the game.
- La Roche attempted a firm response, firing five shots attempts during the rest of the half, all saved by goalkeeper Courtney Vought (Somerset, PA, Somerset) to send the Mounties into the second with their one goal lead intact.
- After trading offensive pushes to open the half, La Roche evened the game in the 54th minute, putting the pressure back on the hosts to respond.
- The Mounties pushed back hard, putting three shots on target before Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) was able to recapture the lead for Mount Aloysius off of Hinton's assist.
- Holding the 2-1 lead with twenty minutes left, the Mounties focused on possession, limiting La Roche to just two shot attempts for the rest of the game.
- The 76th minute saw Brooke Thomas (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) set up Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood), who converted the pass to give Mount Aloysius a two-goal lead as the half winded down.
- One final offensive push from the Red Hawks proved fruitless, and the Mounties advanced in the AMCC tournament with the 3-1 win.

Into The Box Score:

- Mount Aloysius shot six less times than the Red Hawks, but put 80% of those attempts on target compared to La Roche's 56%.
