Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mounties Fall to Penn-State DuBois

Dubois, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's basketball dropped their second game of the season against Penn-State Dubois this Saturday, November 11th.

In a matchup of contrasting styles, the post play of Mount Aloysius came into conflict with the perimeter focus of Penn-State Dubois, resulting in a back-and-forth matchup coming down to transition opportunities. The Mounties dominated the boards, pulling down twenty-two more rebounds than the hosts, but struggled with ball movement, recording just five assists as a team compared to Penn-State Dubois seventeen.

Guards Ronnie McClain (Canton, Ohio, McKinley) and Trent Ramirez-Keller (Gettysburg, Pa., Gettysburg) joined forward Reggie Priah (Cleveland, Ohio, Euclid) as the only Mounties to record double digit scoring in the contest, with all three shooting efficiently, staying above the 55% mark on low volume. The Mounties struggled to maintain this efficiency with deep balls despite similarly low volume, shooting just 1-8 from three as a team. In contrast to their opponents, and bolstered by turnover opportunities, Penn-State Dubois would earn almost twenty more shot attempts than the Mounties, focusing their earned volume behind the arc, shooting fifteen threes each half.

Despite hitting just 30% of their three-point attempts, the Lions seemed to make deep shots when needed. After Mount Aloysius earned their first lead of the game after ten minutes of play, the Lions would hit two threes in under a minute, adding in another make inside the arc to suddenly grab a six-point lead. The Mounties would overcome this deficit before the end of the half, taking the lead with three minutes to play only for Penn-State Dubois to again hit a pair of threes in quick succession.

The second half held similar results for both teams; each Mountie lead seemed to be quickly erased by an opportune three. When Ramirez-Keller scored a late-game jumper to give the Mounties a four-point lead with under three minutes left, the Lions again answered with an immediate three to make it a one-point game. A scoreless two minute stretch ensued, until an offensive board was kicked out for the Lions to hit their final three of the game with under 30 seconds to play. A final possession proved fruitless for the Mounties, falling 67-69 on the road.

Mount Aloysius men's basketball hosts Goucher College this Tuesday, November 14th. Goucher enters the game 0-1 on the season, coming off a 66-76 loss to The College of New Jersey.
