Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Mountie Defense Falters Against Penn State Behrend

Erie, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's basketball fell to seventh in the AMCC following Saturday's road loss to Penn State Behrend.

Even through the first fifteen minutes of action, the conference match up would slip from the Mounties grasp with five minutes left in the first. Although the visitors were able to keep up an offensive efficiency solid enough to keep pace, and even grab leads from their opponent early on, defensive issues became overwhelming as the Lions would post staggering 50/40/90 team shooting splits for the game. The Mounties would earn just 2 points off of turnovers, compared to the Lions picking up 18. Both teams would score in the paint at even rates, each earning 40 total points inside. While the Lions' outside shooting would earn them 33 more points, the Mounties would make only 2 of their 11 attempts, relying completely on post looks and trips to the line for scoring.

Forwards Reggie Priah (Cleveland, Ohio, Euclid) and De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin) would be the only Mounties to hit double-digit scoring figures, dropping 13 and 12 respectively. The Mounties would post only five total assists, a third as many as Penn State Behrend recorded. The second half was a one sided affair, with the Lions steadily building their lead to a 29-point apex from everywhere on the court. They would hold this figure until the end of the game, as Mount Aloysius fell 59-88.

Mount Aloysius men's basketball comes out of Christmas break on December 29th to participate in the Dr. Carol V. Decosta/Go 4 the Goal Tournament in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Mounties take on SUNY Purchase in the first round, who hold a 5-2 record so far this season. Conference play resumes January 3rd, with Mount Aloysius hosting the Carlow University Celtics.
