Erie, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball suffered a conference defeat this Saturday, December 9th against Penn State Behrend.
Ball security issues plagued the Mounties throughout the contest, with the visitors recording 28 turnovers with just 10 assists, giving the Lions 34 points off turnovers. Although the Lion's interior defense kept Mount Aloysius to sub-40% shooting from the floor, the Mountie backcourt found some efficiency from deep, shooting a respectable 37.5% from deep. Although posting her lowest point total of the season, freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) was a standout for the visitors on defense, recording 5 blocks and 4 steals while earning her fifth straight double-double.
Although Mount Aloysius was able to keep it close for the majority of the first, two Lion threes in the final 30 seconds of the quarter pushed Behrend into the second with an eight point advantage. Behrend would only build their lead from there; despite difficulty from deep in the second and third quarters, the Lion's defense proved insurmountable for the visitors. Mount Aloysius's toughest quarter came in the second, where turnover issues combined with cold shooting to result in a six-minute long scoreless stretch for the Mounties. Coming out of halftime, Mount Aloysius was able to take care of the ball at a higher rate, but Behrend's fourth quarter offense proved too difficult to handle as the Lions would maintain 60/75/83 shooting splits across the final ten minutes of action. Behrend's 90-62 defeat of Mount Aloysius pushes the Lions to 3-1 in conference play, good for third place in the AMCC, while the Mounties fall to 1-3, good for a share of seventh place.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball will return from Christmas break for the Jim Meagle Holiday Classic in Marietta, Ohio on December 29th and 30th, where they will take on Oberlin and Carnegie Mellion. Conference play resumes January 3rd, with the Mounties hosting Carlow University.
