CRESSON, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Basketball team hosted Alfred State in an AMCC matchup. The Mounties needed an extra five minutes to top the Pioneers, 97-96.

How It Happened
- Alfred State jumped ahead first, in a back-and-forth half, grabbing a seven-point lead in the first three and a half minutes. Mount Aloysius worked to tie the contest back up at 14, just ahead of the 12-minute mark.
- The two teams traded the lead once again, before the Pioneers opened up the biggest lead of the period, 35-25, with less than five minutes to go. The Mounties once again roared back, outscoring the visitors, 16-6, to end the period, powered by eight Hagwood points. At the half, the score was tied at 41.
- Beginning the second half, the game was tight and neither team led by more than three points, until Alfred State scored eight straight points to lead, 72-66, with eight-plus minutes remaining.
- While the Mounties were able to go on a run to take back the lead, the two teams went right down to the wire trading the lead multiple times. However, neither team gained a major advantage and saw the contest head to overtime, tied at 84.
- In the overtime period, the Pioneers scored the first six points to take a 90-84 lead. They controlled the overtime period, leading by six with 1:31 remaining. Down the final stretch, the Mounties went 3-for-3, including two, three pointers by
Rafael Ibáñez Medina (Mexico City, Mexico / Canarias Basketball Academy). They outscored the Pioneers, 8-1, in the final minute and half, with the second Medina three coming with seven seconds left on the clock, giving them a 97-96 victory.

- Mount Aloysius held significant advantages in all shooting categories. They shot 51.6% from the field, compared to 43.9% for the Pioneers. They also had advantages in three-point percentage (33.3%-29.7%) and free throw percentage (85.7%-65.0%).
