Mounties' Upset Bid Falls Short in AMCC Tournament

GREENSBURG, Pa. -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Women's Basketball team made their first AMCC Tournament appearance in four years, when they traveled to third-seeded, Pitt-Greensburg. While the Mounties hung with the Bobcats for most of the contest, they ultimately fell short, 74-62.

Leaders
- China Jenkins (Fort Myers, Fla. / Evangelical Christian School) had a monster game for the Mounties, scoring a game-high 20 points and grabbing 19 rebounds. It was her sixth double-double in the past seven games.
- Sophomore Karissa Mercier (Freedom, Pa. / Freedom) had 12 points, while going 2-for-5 from behind the three-point line.
- Freshman Paris Dugan (Dover, Pa. / Dover) added ten points off the bench, going a perfect 4-for-4 from the field.

How It Happened
- After missing their first three shots and falling behind 3-0 early, the Mounties made their next six shots. Though they only led once, 4-3, the stayed even with the Bobcats, tying the game at 13 on a Mercier three. After Greensburg took a 15-13 lead, the Mounties got a huge layup from Dugan right before the buzzer, heading to the second quarter with the game knotted at 15.
- An early free throw in the second quarter gave the Mounties a 16-15 lead, but five straight points from the Bobcats put them ahead, 20-16. Mount Aloysius answered with five straight of their own to take another one point lead before the Bobcats scored the next five, again going ahead by four. Pitt-Greensburg held the lead over the final seven-plus minutes of the half, but never saw it get above five points. A Melina Maietta three pointer in the final ten seconds of the period gave the Bobcats a 38-33 lead heading into the half.
- Pitt-Greensburg came out of the break on a roll, scoring the first seven points and growing their lead to 45-33. After a Mountie timeout, Chloe Clemons (Kailua, Hawaii / Kalaheo) hit a three pointer to spark a 7-0 run and cut the lead back down to five points. The third quarter continued to be based on runs, as Pitt-Greensburg scored the next five points, and grabbing a 50-40 lead. While Mount Aloysius scored the next four points on layups by Clemons and Jenkins, the Bobcats scored the final eight points of the quarter, giving them their biggest lead of the day, 58-44.
- In the fourth quarter, the Mounties continued to hold tough, but just could not cut much off of the Bobcat margin. Over the first three and a half minutes, the Mounties scored eight of the first 11 points and got the lead down to single-digits, 61-52. However, that would be as close as they could get. Pitt-Greensburg kept the lead anywhere between 10 and 14 points over the rest of the game, with Hanna Rittenhouse (Mc Veytown, Pa. / Mifflin County) cutting it to the 74-62 final score by adding two free throws with only a couple seconds left on the clock.

Into the Box Score
- Both teams shot 39% for the game, but each shot better in the first half. Mount Aloysius shot 53.8% (14-for-26) in the first half, while Pitt-Greensburg shot 46.4% (13-for-28).
- Mount Aloysius held a significant advantage on points in the paint, outscoring Pitt-Greensburg 36-16. The Bobcats won the Points Off Turnovers battle, outscoring the Mounties, 25-4.
- The Bobcats also had an advantage from behind the arc, as they went 9-for-21 (42.9%) and saw held the Mounties to just 3-for-17 (17.6%).

The AMCC Tournament defeat ends the Mounties' season. They finished 4-22, but earned the #6 seed in the AMCC Tournament with a 4-10 conference record. They will lose Hanna Rittenhouse to graduation, but will look to build on a young roster in 2023-24.
