Mounties Swept Away by Tornadoes

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Men's Volleyball traveled to Geneva on Wednesday night, for an AMCC matchup against the Golden Tornadoes. Geneva swept the Mounties, 3-0.

Leaders
- Matthew Franz (Johnstown, Ohio / Bishop Hartley) led the Mounties with 11 kills
- Setter, Connor O'Mealia (North Chili, N.Y. / Churchville Chili), had a team-high, 18 assists and six digs.

How It Happened
- Geneva opened up the game by scoring 13 of the first 14 points to take a 13-1 lead in the first set and never looked back. They finished the set strong by topping the Mounties, 25-8 and taking a 1-0 lead.
- The second set was much more hotly contested, with early ties both at three and five points. Geneva took a small lead before the Mounties again tied the set at 10. The Tornadoes then scored six of the next seven points to grab a 16-11 victory. Mount Aloysius responded by outscoring the home team 10-4 and jumping ahead, 21-20. The home team then turned around and scored the next four points to land one point away from winning the set, 24-21. Mount Aloysius scored the next three points to tie the game at 24 all, but Geneva ended the set by scoring the final two points to win, 26-24.
- In the third set, Geneva scored six of the first eight points to grab control. The two teams split the next ten points, but the Tornadoes scored the next nine points to hold a 20-7 lead. Both teams scored five of the next ten points, but that ended the contest, 25-12.

Into the Box Score
- Geneva hit an eye-popping .513 percentage for the game, committing just three errors for the entire game. In the first set, they registered 13 kills and did not have an error, hitting .650.

Up Next
- Mount Aloysius is set to return home, Saturday, to host Medaille in another AMCC contest.
- The Mavericks are 6-15 overall and 2-6 in the AMCC. They have lost three straight games, including a 3-0 loss to Penn State Behrend on Tuesday night.
