Mounties Dominate Bobcats in Softball Sweep

CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Softball team got their first experience of the 2023 season, on their home field, and made good use of the opportunity by earning a sweep against Pitt-Greensburg. They beat the Bobcats in both contests by using the eight-run rule.

Leaders
- Anna Peterman (Clymer, Pa. / Penns Manor) had a career day, going 5-for-5, scoring five times, driving in five runs, and while hitting her first collegiate home run.
- Freshman Jessica Koptcho (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) tossed a six-inning, complete game, in Game Two, and shut out the Bobcats to earn the victory. She allowed just four hits and struck out five batters.

How It Happened
Game One
- The Mounties held the Bobcats scoreless in the top of the first inning before exploding on offense in their half. Mount Aloysius scored seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, grabbing the huge advantage. Sarah Henninger (DuBois, Pa. / DuBois) drove in two with an RBI triple and was driven in on an RBI single by Makayla Weyant (Bedford, Pa. / Chestnut Ridge). With two runners on and one out, Peterman drove a pitch over the left field fence to double the Mountie lead and make it 6-0. With two outs, Kayla Diehl (Schellsburg, Pa. / Chestnut Ridge) turned a single into a triple by stealing both second and third, then scored on Grace Gardini's (York, Pa. / York Catholic) second hit of the inning, giving them the 7-0 lead.
- Diehl and Gardini each drove in a run on singles in the bottom of the third inning, to extend the Mountie lead to 9-0. They added four more in the fourth inning, with Peterman driving in one and Bailee Renninger (Lock Haven, Pa. / Central Mountain) driving in two runs on an RBI double. They scored a final run on a Bobcat error, leaving them to get three outs in the top of the fifth to earn the victory.
- Pitt-Greensburg made some noise in the fifth, scoring three runs, all with two outs, but were still too far behind. Mount Aloysius took Game One, 13-3.

Game Two
- Mount Aloysius again showcased dominance to open the second game. Peterman drove in their first run on a single, in the bottom of the first. Bella Piacesi (Woodbridge, Va. / Charles Cogan) doubled in a run and Samantha Moschetteri (Spencerport, N.Y. / Spencerport) drove in two runs on a single, giving the Mounties a 4-0 lead.
- As Koptcho continued to limit the Bobcat offense, the Mounties added two insurance runs in the third. Moschetteri and Renninger each drove in a run, pushing the lead to 6-0.
- In the fourth and fifth innings, the Mounties left a total of five runners on base, but were unable to score. However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, needing two runs to end the contest, the Mounties got their first two runners on without getting a hit. Alysha Cutri (Imperial, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) drove in a run on a double to right-center field, then Piacesi singled to drive in the eighth and final run, giving the Mounties the walk-off victory.

Into the Box Scores
- Nine different Mounties had a multi-hit game over the course of the day. Peterman was the only Mountie to have multiple hits in both ends of the contest.
- In Game One, Pitt-Greensburg actually left more runners on base, despite being out-hit, 16-6. They left six runners on while the Mounties left four runners on.
