Cresson, PA. -- With four players out do to various injuries and illnesses, Mount Aloysius women's tennis suffered losses to Saint Vincent and Alfred University this weekend.
Play began for the Mounties on a rainy Saturday at Ebensburg Tennis Center, dropping the opening two doubles matches to the Bearcats amid struggles with net control. Three doubles began with Saint Vincent up early, with the visitors carving out a 4-0 lead before senior
Campbell McCann (Pittsburgh, PA, Avonworth) suffered a left knee injury, forcing the retirement. Singles went awry from Mount Aloysius, with straight forward affairs at one and three singles sealing the meet for Saint Vincent, with further play left unfinished due to time and court constraints.
McCann's injury represents the fourth Mountie on the out list this season, with
Halle Clark (shoulder),
Ali Lawson (foot), and
Maria Runk (illness) all missing multiple meets for recovery.
With limited turn around time, Mount Aloysius headed to Alfred University for Sunday's meet down a player, forcing defaults at six singles and three doubles. Despite straightforward doubles losses, bright points appeared in singles play, with freshman
Caylie Conlon (New Paris, PA, Chestnut Ridge) committing to a more aggressive playstyle against the net control of Alfred's three singles, narrowly defeated despite strong shotmaking throughout the all-court match. Senior
Kierra Mountain (Roaring Spring, PA, Central) also had a good showing, attacking her opponent's forehand at two singles to give herself opportunities in both sets, but struggling to convert deuce points down the stretch.
