Cresson, Pa. -- Slick turf and steady rainfall proved inconsequential to the Mountie soccer teams this Saturday, with both teams defeating Alfred State in their AMCC openers.
Women's Game
How It Happened:
- Despite consistent Mountie offense to open the game, it was Alfred State who drew blood first, scoring in the 15th minute on a chipped goal from outside the eighteen.
- Mount Aloysius wasted no time rallying back, as
Jessie Forrest (Chapel Hill, NC, Chapel Hill) answered back off an assist from
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood).
- Neither team was able to force offensive pressure until the final five minutes of the half, where
Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, MD, St. Maria Goretti) found
Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) for the goal twice in just three minutes, putting the Mounties up 3-1 going into the second.
- The second half saw both teams struggling to find shot attempts, although the Mounties' offensive efforts were bolstered by consistent corner kick opportunities.
- It was on one of these corner kicks late in the game, taken by
Grace O'Berry (Boonsboro, MD, Boonsboro), that
Jasmine Hinton (Huntingtown, MD, Huntingtown) would find the goal again for Mount Aloysius, putting them up 4-1.
- In a final gasp, the Pioneers scored in the final five minutes, but were unable to put together any more, falling to their hosts 4-2.

Men's Game
How It Happened:
- Just as with the women's game, the Pioneers found offense early, scoring off a bobbled corner kick in the seventh minute.
- Mount Aloysius maintained composure despite this early goal, maintaining high possession marks and locking in defensively.
- Without either side managing to get clean looks at the goal, the half ended with the Mounties down 1-0.
- Mount Aloysius were awarded a great look when the Pioneer defense committed a handball in the box, giving the Mounties a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
- Despite an initial save by the Pioneer goalie,
Liam Craw (Palmerston North New Zealand, Freyberg High School) was able to put in the rebound, leveling the game at 1-1.
- Ten minutes later, an absolute rocket by
Luke Traynor (London, England, Woodhouse College) found the back of the net, giving the Mounties the lead and electrifying both his teammates and the crowd.
