Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius soccer saw a successful outing against conference opponent Carlow this Wednesday, with the women's team defeating the Celtics 3-1, and the men winning 11-0.
Women's Game
How It Happened:
- The opening thirty minutes was a back and forth affair, with both teams trading shot attempts off a variety of looks.
- Carlow would score first, putting one in the lower left off a miscued Mountie defensive possession.
- Wasting little time to answer, a
Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) corner kick would set up an
Abby Bell (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) header to even the score going in to halftime, 1-1.
- The second half saw far more offensive control from the Mounties, peppering the Celtic defense with shots despite not finding the net.
- It would again be a corner kick that would set up Mount Aloysius for a goal, with a deflected ball giving
Jessie Forrest (Chapel Hill, NC, Chapel Hill) the open look to put the Mounties up 2-1.
- Eight minutes later,
Grace O'Berry (Boonsboro, MD, Boonsboro) would score for the Mounties, assisted by
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood).
- A 90th minute shot attempt by O'Berry would be the last of the game, ending the contest 3-1 for the Mount Aloysius women.
Into the Box Score:
- Corner kicks provided strong offensive opportunities for the Mounties, who tallied seven for the game compared to the Celtics' two.
- Mount Aloysius edged out their opponent in shot attempts, picking up eighteen to Carlow's twelve.
- O'Berry led the Mounties in overall shot attempts, recording five for the game.
Men's Game
How It Happened:
- The goals came early and often for the Mounties, who saw their most successful offensive effort of the season.
- The first three Mountie goals came in a twelve minute stretch beginning in the 13th minute, all involving
Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas), who assisted on two while putting one in himself.
- In the closing seconds of the half, the Mounties would score again, this time off a
Braden Callahan (Duncansville, Pa., Hollidaysburg) effort assisted by
Sean Barrant (Portmore, Jamaica, Jonathan Grant).
- Throughout the half, the Mounties continually attacked the Celtic defense, buoyed by a stifled Carlow offense which failed to record a shot attempt in the opening 45.
- The second half started even better for Mount Aloysius, who scored twice in the 47th minute, then again in the 49th.
- With the starters pulled around the 55 minute mark, the Mounties still found success around their opponent's goal, putting in four more in the final thirty minutes of action.
