Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's soccer earned the victory against the Hawks while the women's team fell to the visitors this Homecoming weekend.
Women's Game
How It Happened:
- Mount Aloysius wasted no time drawing first blood, with
Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, MD, St. Maria Goretti) setting up
Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) for the opening goal in just the second minute of action.
- Despite the quick shot attempt by Hilbert following their kick off, the Mounties were able to further the divide from the visitors, with Mason putting the Mounties up 2-0 after eight minutes of play.
- The next twenty minutes were an offensive onslaught by the Hawks, peppering corner kicks and shots towards the Mountie defense until their fifth corner kick attempt finally broke through with a goal.
- Hilbert continued to push on the Mounties, eventually earning a second goal in the 35th minute. The two teams traded goalkeepers saves before ultimately heading into halftime tied at 2-2.
- An early offensive push for Mount Aloysius resulted in shot attempts, but the Hawks charged back with two goals less than a minute apart after 10 minutes of second half action.
-
Abby Bell (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) and
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) would both answer for the Mounties, scoring within six minutes of each other to again level the game, this time at 4-4.
- A handful of Mountie shots would again prove fruitless, while a 78th minute goal from Hilbert would put them up one going in to the final 10 minutes of action.
- Unable to find one last offensive push, the Mounties would fall to the Hawks 5-4 after a frenetically paced 90 minutes.
Into the Box Score:
- Hilbert's offense tallied fifteen shots, outpacing their hosts' total of eleven.
- The offensive separation was also seen in corner kicks, with the visitors earing six to Mount Aloysius's two.
- Mason led the Mounties in shot attempts with three.
Men's Game
How It Happened:
- Despite a relatively slow start, this conference match-up would prove to be another high scoring Mountie affair, with
Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France, Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) opening the scoring for the hosts after 22 minutes of play.
Juan Camacho (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) tacked another one on just forty seconds later, putting the Mounties up 2-0 halfway through the first.
- Constant offensive pressure from Mount Aloysius marked the rest of the half, with
Enoch Wiredu (Harford County, Maryland, Harford Technical) scoring off a
Max Coppock (Marlow, England, Beaconsfeld) corner kick to send the Mounties into halftime with the 3-0 lead.
- The second half saw Camacho well involved, as he scored or assisted on four goals for the Mounties.
- Once again, nonstop offense kept the Hawks well at bay, with
Liam Craw (Palmerston North New Zealand, Freyberg High School),
Sean Barrant (Portmore, Jamaica, Jonathan Grant),
Braden Callahan (Duncansville, Pa., Hollidaysburg), and Bez all also scoring for the Mounties in the closing half.
- Breaking a Mountie streak of missed penalty kicks, Camacho's 64th minute came after a Hilbert foul in the box, putting the Mounties up 8-0.
- Callahan's 69th minute goal would prove to be the game's final, with the contest ending 9-0 in favor of the hosts.
