Bradford, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball improved to 5-4 in the AMCC following their 79-61 win over Pitt-Bradford on Saturday, January 20th.
Freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) once again posted a team-leading double double, scoring 19 on 7/9 shooting from the floor while grabbing 18 rebounds. Kosmack anchored an especially strong Mountie defense, contributing 5 blocks as her team would hold the Panthers to 30% field goal percentage and just 16% shooting from deep.
Edging out to a 5 point lead after the first quarter, the Mounties would find their best basketball in the second quarter, scoring efficiently while holding the Panthers to just 12 points in ten minutes. Mount Aloysius would go 5/7 from deep in the second quarter, growing their lead to 14 heading in to halftime. Freshman guard
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) continued her hot shooting streak, going 5/11 from deep to add 17 points from the bench for the visitors.
Although ball security problems provided the Panthers with some transition opportunities, the Mountie defense limited the damage, and Pitt-Bradford would score just 11 points on 20 Mounties turnovers. Conversely, the Mounties would make the most out of Panther errors, scoring 25 points on 13 Pitt-Bradford turnovers.
Although the Mountie offense would cool considerably in the second half, the defense continued their rampage, holding the Panthers to 28 points across twenty minutes of play. This success came mainly from potent perimeter defense, as the visitors would hold Pitt-Bradford scoreless from deep in the second half on 12 attempts. Maintaining a double digit lead through the fourth, the Mounties would end the game in a 79-61 victory.
Mount Aloysius improves to 8-8 on the season, while the Panthers fall to 6-10. The Mounties next host La Roche for a conference matchup this Wednesday, January 24th. La Roche sits atop the AMCC standings with a perfect 10-0 conference record this season, coming off a 96-69 win over Alfred State.
