Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

La Roche Equipoises Season Series Against Mounties

Pittsburgh, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's basketball fell on the road to the La Roche this Wednesday, January 24th, as the Redhawks avenged an early season loss to the Mounties.

The Mounties opened the conference matchup with efficient shooting, maintaining a 50% field goal percentage for the first half. Junior guard Will Hagwood (Willowick, Ohio, South) led the effort, scoring six of the Mounties first nine points. Hagwood would end with a team-high 21 points on 50% shooting, adding in 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Uncharacteristically, the Mounties would find themselves outrebounded, as the Redhawks would grab 40 to the Mounties 38 for the game. Rebounding would keep the Redhawks afloat in dry shooting spells throughout the game, with La Roche making just 38% of their shots for the game.

Facing a 2 point deficit going into the second half, the Mounties would go cold from the field, shooting 32% in the closing twenty minutes of action. Despite the interior difficulties, Mount Aloysius would shoot the three effectively, going 5-12 for the half. Sophomore guard Trent Ramirez-Keller (Gettysburg, Pa., Gettysburg) would go 3-3 from deep for the Mounties, the only player to hit multiple threes for the visitors.

Turnovers would seal the Mounties' fate; committing 14 on 11 assists, the Mounties would face solid ball security from their opponents, who committed just 7 on 14 assists. The 11-point difference in points of turnovers would be felt harshly in the second, where La Roche would capture a double digit lead early and maintain the separation for most of the half. The Mounties saw significant struggles in defending without fouling, putting La Roche on the line 28 times, where the hosts would earn 24 points. In contrast, the Mounties would take just 8 free throws, making 6.

La Roche improves to 8-3 in conference play, good for first in the AMCC. Mount Aloysius falls to 3-7, occupying a share of the eighth spot. The Mounties host Penn State Behrend this Saturday, January 27th. The Lions enter the contest 7-3 in the AMCC, coming off an 84-49 win over Carlow.
