Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Mounties Soar Past Hawks

HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius men's and women's soccer programs each defeated AMCC opponent Hilbert this Saturday, Oct 5.

Men's Game

The Mountie offense would prove unstoppable for the second game in a row, with the visitors scoring six goals across the first half. Senior Louis Bez (Bordeaux, France, Lycée Sainte-Marie de la Bastide) would open up scoring after just two minutes of play, before setting up Joel Martinez (Madrid, Spain, Putnam Science Academy) and Martin Donner (Stockholm, Sweden, Danderyds Gymnasium Studievagl) on successive attempts to give the Mounties a three goal advantage after only twelve minutes of action. Although a 18th minute defensive lapse would deny the Mounties a shut out, the visitors would respond with two more first-half Bez goals, before he would set up teammate Juan Camacho's (Ibaque, Colombia, San Bonifacio de las Lanzas) goal in the final thirty seconds.

Holding a 6-1 lead coming out of halftime, the Mounties would stay on the attack, putting together a brutal ten minute stretch which saw Martinez, Camacho, and Manuel Prats (Madrid, Spain, International School of Madrid) each score from the field, with Camacho adding in a fourth goal from a penalty kick. Up 10-1 with thirty minutes to play, the Mounties would slow their aggression, finding more shot attempts but staying satisfied with maintaining their lead. Despite the slowed play, the Mounties would earn an 89th minute penalty kick opportunity but fail to convert, ending the contest in a 10-1 victory for the visitors. The Mounties would end the game outshooting their opponent twenty-nine to six, with both Bez and Camacho earning hat-tricks.

Women's Game

Although carrying a less all-out aggressive attack plan, the Mountie women would follow up the men with a strong top-to-bottom performance, scoring efficiently while defending effectively. Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa., Unionville) would score the first of the Mounties' goals, assisted by Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) in the 20th minute. Despite taking only two more shot attempts for the rest of the half, the Mounties would convert on their second, with Abby Bell (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) finishing another Despot pass to send the Mounties into halftime holding a 2-0 advantage. Hilbert would earn just one shot attempt across the first forty-five minutes, which would be neutralized by goalkeeper McKenna Meadows (Lewisburg, PA, Lewisburg) in the 11th minute

It would take only eight minutes from the start of the second half for the Mounties to extend their lead, with Despot scoring the 53rd minute goal to put her team up three. Struggling to cover openings, Hilbert would give up another goal just two minutes later, with Bell scoring her second of the game. Although a 58th minute attempt would be scooped up by the Hawks' goalkeeper, the Mounties would go three-for-five on shots in the first 25 minutes of the second, with Jordan Bailey (Crofton, Md., South River) earning her team the 5-0 lead. Although a handful of shots from both teams would be attempted in the remainder of the game, the horn would sound in the Mounties favor, as the visitors picked up the 5-0 win. The Mounties converted half of their on-goal shots, while attempting almost three times as many total shots as the hosts.
