Mounties Bewildered By Bison

BETHANY W.V. – Mount Aloysius College suffered a 109-98 loss to Bethany College (5-0) on Saturday afternoon in a high-scoring matchup. Senior forward De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin) would lead the Mounties in scoring and rebounds, finishing with 24 points, 9 boards, and three steals.

Despite strong performances from guards BJ Busbee (Cleveland, Ohio, Lutheran East) and Will Hagwood (Willowick, Ohio, South) to go along with Haggans's two-way contributions, the Mounties would face an offensive downpour from their opponents which would prove hard for the visitors to match. Bethany would sustain 56% / 40% / 80% shooting as a team for the game, including a brutal 75-point second half which saw the Bison shoot 72% from the field and 58% from deep. Despite senior forward Maurice Hudgins (Hayes, Va., Christchurch School) setting a career high in points to put four Mounties in double-digit scoring, the difference in efficiency would make the difference throughout the game.

The Mounties would out rebound the Bison throughout the contest, with the board control helping the visitors to an 18 point lead going in to halftime. The Bison would waste no time erasing the lead in the second, dropping the deficit to a two-possession game after just six minutes of play. Bethany would hit 10 second-half threes to pull the game back into reach, while the Mounties would go 0-7 from deep for the half. Tied with seven minutes to play, the Mounties would match the Bison for a handful of possessions, but the 72% field goal rate of their opponents could not be overcome. The Mounties would fall 109-98, dropping their record to 2-3 this season.

The  Mounties will return to action and look to gain some momentum on Tuesday, Nov. 26, when they host Penn State Altoona in their AMCC opener. The Lions enter the contest 3-3 this year, coming off a 77-78 loss to Colby College.
