CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Soccer team kicked off the AMCC playoffs with an impressive 3-0 victory over La Roche on Saturday afternoon. The win advances the Mounties to the semifinals, where they will continue their quest for a championship.
Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa. / Hollidaysburg) was an impact player for the Mounties, scoring two goals and assisting on another. Her first goal came early in the second half, setting the tone for the Mounties' control of the game. Despot's strong performance was crucial, as she consistently threatened the La Roche defense and created scoring opportunities.
The Mounties' other goal came from
Sara Borlie (Kennett Square, Pa. / Unionville), who capitalized on a well-placed assist from Despot. Borlie's goal was her fifth of the season, which leads the team.
One key factor in the Mounties' victory was their dominance in time of possession. They maintained control throughout the match, applying constant pressure on La Roche and limiting their scoring chances.
Mount Aloysius will advance to play number one seed, Penn State Behrend, on Wednesday. The Lions beat the Mounties, 4-0, in their earlier meeting this season.
