BRADFORD, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's basketball team defeated the Pitt-Bradford Panthers (1-5, 0-1 AMCC) this Saturday, Dec 7 in a conference match up. The Mounties' 104 points in regulation marks the most scored by the team since the Mounties joined the NCAA more than twenty years ago.
The Mounties saw remarkable offensive efficiency from the outset, scoring from inside and out at their best rate this season. The visitors would record stunning 60% / 59% / 80% shooting splits as a team across the first three quarters, taking a 42-lead after 30 minutes of play. The Mounties' hot shooting would be ignited by sophomore guard
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars), who would lead her team in scoring with 23 points, including six three pointers, in just 21 minutes of action.
Despite the flow of the Mountie offense, the Panthers would keep pace for the first ten minutes, ending the first quarter down only eight points thanks to 5-8 shooting from deep for the hosts. The Mounties would adjust their defense in response, holding Bradford to just 1-23 three point shooting across the rest of the quarters. The Mountie defense would pick up 13 steals from the hosts, with junior guard
Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) leading the Mounties with four.
The Mounties would also get strong play off the bench, with forwards
Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) and
Molly Richards (Naples, Fla., Naples) each scoring double-digits in under fifteen minutes of play. Barr would also be active on the boards, recording her first double-double of the season with a team-high ten rebounds.
Although the Mountie shooting would take a dip in efficiency across the final ten minutes of play, the Mounties would still outscore their opponents by ten in the final quarter, ending the game with the Mounties picking up their largest deficit victory of the season. The Mounties improve to 5-3 this season, and 1-2 in the AMCC.
The Mounties return from winter break in Nashville, Tn. to take part in the Music City Classic. Mount Aloysius will face off against the Marywood University Pacers (6-3) and the UW-Stevens Point Pointers (6-1) in the tournament.
