How It Happened:
- The Mounties struggled against Altoona's offense, falling into a 16-6 hole in the first set behind several Lion kills.

- Although the second set opened with two Franz aces, the Lions would waste little time responding, stretching the gap to 20-13 behind strong serving.
- Failing late again, Lion serve errors would present scoring opportunities for the Mounties, but it would not be enough as the second would close 25-18 to Penn State Altoona.
- An immediate 5-0 run by the Lions set the tone for the third set.
- Reeling from the strong start, Mountie errors would help the Lions take a 21-8 lead.
- Despite a four point run by the Mounties to stay alive, the match would be sealed with a Mountie error, 25-14 in the third.

- The teams would trade kills until the Mounties would lead 21-16, when the Bearcats would launch their counteroffensive.
- Recording a kill or an ace on six of the next ten points, Saint Vincent would take charge, stealing the first 25-22 from the Mounties.
- Startled by the sudden change in fortune, the Mounties would find themselves down 17-8 in the second, struggling to find consistency in attacking.
- A three point run seemed to inspire some hope, before the Bearcats would again shut down the set with a substantial run, winning 8 of 9 points to take the second 25-12.
