Pittsburgh, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's basketball ended their 2023-2024 campaign with a loss to #1 La Roche in the AMCC tournament this Friday, February 23rd.
The Mounties came out ready to play, facing down a La Roche team sitting undefeated in conference play. The Mounties opened shooting 53% from the floor, scoring effectively inside thanks to powerful post play from freshman forward
Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center). Kosmack would end with a team high 22 points, 11 rebounds and 3 blocks.
The Mounties would take a six point lead into halftime, despite struggling with outside shooting, thanks to strong defensive play. La Roche would shoot just 34% in the first half, and the Mounties would keep them close to this efficiency for the full forty minutes of action. The difference would come in turnover counts, with La Roche committing 13 to Mount Aloysius's 28. La Roche would more than twice as many points off of turnovers as the Mounties.
Keeping their lead through the third, the Mounties would sit up five with ten minutes to play against the defending AMCC champs. La Roche would turn up their defensive intensity, keeping the Mounties to just nine for the quarter while a successful mix of outside shooting and penetration would earn the hosts twenty fourth-quarter points. Despite a massive three from freshman
Annalyn Isaacs (Mars, Pa., Mars) in the final two minutes of the game, La Roche would execute down the stretch to take the game 58-56.
Mount Aloysius women's basketball ends the season with a 13-13 record overall, and a 9-8 record in the AMCC, the highest win total since 2017-2018 for the Mounties. Penn State Behrend would overcome La Roche in the conference final to win the AMCC on Saturday, February 24th.
