Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius men's volleyball fell to the Hiram College Terriers this Saturday, February 3rd.
Leaders:
- Freshman
Evan Schmidt (Loganville, Pa. , Dallastown Area) led the Mounties in assists with 14.
- Sophomore
Jason Freed (East Aurora, N.Y., East Aurora) led the Mounties in kills with 4.
How It Happened:
- The Mounties were in trouble early, falling behind 13-7 after a seven-point, four-kill Terrier run.
- Junior
Tayshaun Johnson's (Uniondale, N.Y., Uniondale) serve put the Mounties in position to fight back, with the hosts cutting into the lead on a three point run.
- Unfortunately, it was not enough to stymie the Hiram momentum, and the visitors would take the set 25-19.
- The second set was no better for the Mounties, who fell behind 13-7 once again.
- Mount Aloysius struggled with return, putting the ball back to their opponents off the return, setting the Terriers up for kills.
- This would create a late six-point run for Hiram, putting the visitors up 23-12.
- A final kill would put the Terriers up 2-0 heading in to the third, 25-14.
- Still struggling with return and offensive consistency, the Mounties again fell behind 13-7 to the Terriers.
- Another late run bouyed by Mountie return struggles put Hiram up 18-8 heading into the final points of the set.
- Two aces and a final Mountie error would give Hiram the third and the match, 25-12.
Into the Box Score:
- Hiram earned 34 kills, 20 more than the Mounties.
- The Terriers hit 8 aces and blocked 7 balls, while the Mounties failed to record any aces or blocks.
- Both teams were even on digs, recording 20.
