CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius Baseball team opened up the Pennsylvania portion of their 2024 schedule, this week, as they traveled to Saint Vincent and Gettysburg. The Mounties topped the Bearcats before being shot down by the Bullets, on Friday.
Following a flawless southern trip to Myrtle Beach, the Mounties went to Saint Vincent (2-10) a day after originally scheduled, on Thursday. That didn't stop the Mounties as they jumped out to a quick lead.
Joshua Brown (Manassas, Va. /Â Osbourn Park)Â tripled home two runs in the top of the first, giving Mount Aloysius a 2-0 lead. They added two more in the second inning, with an RBI-single by
Ryan Bushey (Latrobe, Pa. /Â Derry)Â and an RBI double by
Tyler Quade (Mechanicsville, Md. /Â Chopticon). The Bearcats scratched across runs in the second and fourth innings, cutting the Mountie lead to 4-2. However, the Mounties responded with RBI singles by
John Griffith (Bryans Road, Md. / Henry E. Lackey)Â and
Zack Peck (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon), in the fifth and sixth innings, pushing the lead back to four. Each team held the other scoreless over the final frames, giving the Mounties a 6-2 victory.
Anthony Maseto (Cherry Tree, Pa. / Harmony)Â earned the win on the mound, with five scorless innings out of the bullpen.
Unfortunately for the Mounties, their eight-game winning streak would come to an end, on Friday. Gettysburg (8-10) scored first and never relinquished the lead. By the end of the third inning, the Bullets led, 12-1, with help from an eight-run third inning. Gettysburg would out-score the Mounties 7-3 in the final frames, for a final score of 19-4. The Mountie offense was highlighted by a 3-for-3 performance by Griffith and two RBIs by
Griffin Tunison (Luthvle Timon, Md. / Dulaney).
Mount Aloysius is now set to take a week off, in preparation for both their home opener and conference opener, against Alfred State. The Pioneers are scheduled to visit Calandra-Smith Field, next Saturday. They are currently 4-13 on the season, having lost their last nine games. Alfred State was the AMCC regular season champion in 2023, with a 26-16 overall record. They beat Mount Aloysius in both matchups, last season.
