Aurora, N.Y. -- Mount Aloysius women's lacrosse suffered a conference defeat to the Wells College Express this Saturday, March 30th.
Leaders:
-
Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) and
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, MD, Edgewood) led the Mounties in goals, each scoring one.
- Goalie
Zoe Swank (Romeoville, IL, Romeoville) recorded eight saves on the day.
How It Happened:
- Wells opened the contest strong, earning three shots within the first thirty seconds of action.
- The Mounties responded back with an effective counterattack, as Geissler would put in the first goal of the game on the Mountie's opening push into the host's territory.
- Wells would struggle to maintain possession, but managed to put on in late as the Mounties continued earning shot attempts.
- Figinski eventually put one in to give her team the 2-1 lead, as the final five minutes of the first began to wind down.
- Wells seemed to be brought to life with this goal, immediately responding with a goal of their own before scoring twice more as the quarter came to a close.
- With the score 4-2 heading into the second, it seemed to be anyone's game through the first several minutes of the quarter.
- Wells would grab offensive momentum and shred the Mountie defense, scoring five in the final 11 minutes of the half to take the 9-2 lead.
- The second half would go no better for the Mounties, with Wells scoring again just 90 seconds into the third quarter.
- Despite a handful of good looks at the goal, the Mounties would be unable to find the back of the net as Wells continued to score, with the game eventually ending in a 15-2 Express win.
Into the Box Score:
- Wells College would earn almost twice as many shot attempts as the Mounties, shooting 31 times compared to the visitor's 16.
- Wells would earn the biggest advantage on ground balls and draw controls, outpacing the Mounties by 16 in the former and 8 in the latter.
