GREENSBURG, Pa. -- On Tuesday, the Mount Aloysius Baseball team traveled to Bobcat Park to take on Pitt-Greensburg in an AMCC-tilt. The Mounties (15-8, 5-1 AMCC) blanked the Bobcats (7-16, 3-5 AMCC) in Game One before out-hitting them in Game Two to earn the sweep.
Mount Aloysius got off to a quality start in Game One, as
John Griffith (Bryans Road, Md. / Henry E. Lackey)Â delivered an RBI single to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead. They added two more runs on a
Zack Peck (Huntingdon, PA, Huntingdon)Â homerun, in the fourth inning, then added three more runs in the sixth inning, blowing the game open, 6-0.
While the Mounties offense was rolling, Game One starter,
Chris Hasse (Johnstown, Pa. /Â Westmont Hilltop), just needed the first run to settle in. He gave the Bobcats problems the entire game, limiting them to just two hits and striking out 11 batters. He finished the complete-game shutout in 96 pitches, without walking a single batter, to earn the victory.
In Game Two, the Mounties jumped ahead again, scoring three times in the first inning and adding another run in the second. After a Bobcat run in the bottom half of the second, the Mounties responded with two runs in the third, one on a Griffith homer and the other on an RBI single by
Owen McDermott (West Leechburg, Pa. / Leechburg).
McDermott had a hot bat at the plate, going 7-for-9, with four RBIs in Game Two alone, and hitting his first career home run. The homer was a solo shot in the eighth inning.
After the Mounties grabbed the big lead first, the Bobcats tried to get back in the game but the Mountie offense answered every time. Overall the Mounties tallied 23 hits in the second contest and scored in eight of the nine innings played, outscoring Pitt-Greensburg, 16-9.
With the sweep, the Mounties improved to 5-1 in AMCC play, currently sitting atop the conference standings. They are scheduled to host Wells, this weekend, for the first time as conference opponents. The Express are currently 14-9 on the year, with a 2-2 record in AMCC play. They are coming off an 8-7 loss to Vermont State-Castleton, on Wednesday, but did sweep Pitt-Greensburg over the weekend.
