CRESSON, Pa. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team wrapped up their regular season, as they hosted Wells. Mount Aloysius (6-5, 4-2 AMCC) jumped out to two separate leads in the first quarter, but struggled offensively over the final three periods and suffered a loss, 14-6.
The Mounties jumped ahead quickly, getting two free position goals in the first minute and a half of the contest.
Katie Figinski (Abingdon, Md. / Edgewood) and
Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel) registered the markers, giving the Mounties a 2-0 lead.
Wells responded with two goals in the next 33 seconds, and a third goal with 10:48 remaining in the quarter, to grab a 3-2 lead. Figinski answered with another free position goal and
Amanda Price (Columbia, Pa. / Hempfield) scored to put the Mounties back in front, 4-3. Wells added a goal, right before the end of the first quarter, tying the game at four heading into the second.
Over the second and third periods, Wells took control of the game, scoring four times in the second and three times in the third. The seven straight goals gave them an 11-4 lead, before Larios-Soto scored the final goal of the third period, to pull the Mounties within six.
The Express outscored the Mounties in the final quarter, 3-1, to solidify the victory, 14-6. The victory gave the Express sole possession of the AMCC Regular Season Championship.
Figinski led the Mounties with three goals, while Larios-Soto added two. Figinski also had a team-high, three draw controls and four caused turnovers. Goalkeeper,
Zoe Swank (Romeoville, Ill. / Romeoville), had five saves and five ground balls.
Mount Aloysius will next host a home playoff game, next Saturday. They will wait until the conference schedule finishes, this Tuesday, when La Roche travels to Hilbert, to find out who they will play. La Roche won the first matchup, 13-4.
