Mounties Fall in First AMCC Championship Appearance

AURORA, N.Y. -- On Saturday, the Mount Aloysius Lacrosse team played in the inaugural AMCC Championship, against top-seeded, Wells. They matched up with the Express for the third time this season, but ultimately dropped the contest, 19-7.

The Mounties fell behind in the first period, as the home team held them scoreless and scored the first four goals of the contest. Hanna Geissler (Irwin, Pa. / Norwin) got the Mounties on the board in the second quarter, trimming the Express lead to 4-1. After a Wells goal, Katie Figinski (Abingdon, Md. / Edgewood) once again cut the deficit to three goals, with her first marker of the contest. This time, the Express scored twice before a Mountie goal by Clara Larios-Soto (Laurel, Md. / Laurel). Wells added one more before the end of the half, taking a 8-3 lead into the break.

Unfortunately for the Mounties, Wells had a massive third quarter, scoring seven times. Figinski and Larios-Soto both scored for Mount Aloysius in the quarter, but they found themselves trailing 15-5 heading into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Wells scored the first four to put the game out of reach, 19-5. Mount Aloysius' Figinski and Jordan Mason (Hagerstown, Md. / St. Maria Goretti) each added a goal, with Figinski's being her third goal of the game, making the score 19-7, where it would end.

While ultimately suffering the loss in goal, Zoe Swank (Romeoville, Ill. / Romeoville) finished the game with a career-high, 16 saves. She put up a valiant effort in goal, trying to keep the Mounties in the game.

The Mounties' season ends with a 7-6 overall record, including the first conference tournament victory in program history and the team's first winning record. They will look to keep up the positive momentum in 2025, following the runner-up performance.
