Cardinals and Seagulls Tear Up Mounties

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Mount Aloysius Women's Volleyball team wrapped up the Margie Knight Classic, on Saturday, with games against Catholic and Salisbury. After winning the first set of the day, the Mounties struggled and fell in the next six, dropping to 0-3 on the weekend.

In the Mounties first game of the day, against Catholic, they had their best hitting performance of the weekend in the first set, tallying 18 kills and a .250 hitting percentage. While Catholic mounted a comeback, the Mounties held them off to win 25-23. Unfortunately, Mount Aloysius had negative hitting percentages in each of the next two sets, dropping them 25-16 and 25-14. In the fourth set, the Mounties had ten kills and just one error, but lost 25-22. Catholic had 18 kills in the final set to earn the victory.

Mount Aloysius faced the tournament host, Salisbury, in their second game. Mount Aloysius struggled again in the hitting category, with a -.037 percentage for the game, with 16 kills and 19 errors. The Seagulls limited the Mounties to just eight points in the first set, before winning the final two sets, 25-17 and 25-18. Salisbury won all three games on the weekend and was receiving votes in the Preseason AVCA Division III poll.

Mackenzie Barr (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Shaler) and Molly Richards (Naples, Fla. / Naples) were each named to the Margie Knight All-Classic Team. Richards produced 16 kills and 19 digs in the Mounties' loss to Catholic, before adding seven kills and nine digs against Salisbury. Barr had her best performance of the weekend against Catholic, where she had nine kills and committed just two hitting errors.

The Mounties will take the next week off before hosting Albright and Penn State Mont Alto in a tri-match on Saturday. The first game will begin at noon.
