Cresson, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team fell to the visiting Ursinus College Bears this Saturday, September 14th, by a score of five goals to none.
Ursinus wasted no time putting offensive pressure on the Mounties, earning their first shot on goal less than three minutes into the contest. Despite four saves in the first ten minutes from freshman goalkeeper
Brooke Mitchell (Washington, PA, Trinity), the Bears would find the back of the net seven minutes into the game, before putting in their second goal just three minutes later. The Mounties would earn their sole shot attempt in the first half at the fifteen minute mark, with seniorÂ
Grace O'Berry's
(Boonsboro, MD, Boonsboro) attempt saved by the visiting goalkeeper.Â
The 23rd minute would see the Bears score their third goal of the game, still pushing forward even with the widening deficit. Despite eight more first half shot attempts, the Mountie defense would hold on for the final twenty minutes, sending the hosts into halftime down 0-3. Mitchell would record nine of her twelve total saves for the game across the opening 45 minutes, with the visitors earning 19 shot attempts across the first.Â
The second half would open at a slower pace, with Ursinus slowing their offensive game plan. O'Berry would again earn the sole Mountie shot attempt of the half, also saved by the Bears' goalkeeper. Picking up their pace after the Mountie shot attempt, the Bears would again begin peppering the hosts' goal with shot attempts, eventually converting in the 71st minute. Struggling to maintain possession and push forward, the Mounties would stave off a handful more attempts before the final shot of the game, an 84th minute look, would find the back of the net for the visitors. The game clock would run out with the hosts down 0-5, putting the Mounties' record this season at 0-4-1, while Ursinus improves to 4-0-1.Â
The Mountie women return to action this Wednesday, September 18th, traveling to Williamsport to take on the Penn College Wildcats. The Wildcats enter the season 2-0-3, coming off a 1-1 tie to Saint Vincent.Â
