WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- The Penn College Wildcats gave the Mount Aloysius women's soccer program their toughest defeat of the season this Wednesday, Sept. 18, overcoming the visitors 8-0 in regulation.
The non-conference contest began inauspiciously for the Mounties, with the Wildcats putting their first shot on goal just sixteen seconds after kick-off. Penn College would score their first after sixty-three seconds of play, putting the Mounties down early. This would largely set the tone for the half, as a cascade of sixteen shot attempts by the hosts would be answered by a sole shot attempt from the Mounties. Struggling to move the ball up the field, the visitors would also find difficulty defending against their opponents' accuracy, as the Wildcats would go into half time converting a third of their attempts for a 5-0 lead over the Mounties.
While the Mounties would triple their shot attempts in the second half, the rampaging Wildcats would still find success scoring the ball, despite taking seven fewer shots across the closing forty-five minutes. Penn College would score three more times, putting in their final goal in the 73rd minute. Although the Mounties would record the final shot of the game, the attempt would be unsuccessful, and the visitors would fall 0-8 to the Wildcats. Mount Aloysius falls to 0-5-1 on the season, with two games left to play before the start of the AMCC regular season.
The Mounties hit the road again this weekend, traveling to Waynesburg College on Saturday, Sept. 21. Waynesburg enters the contest 3-1-1 this year, coming off a 4-1 win over the Carlow Celtics.
