Alfred, N.Y. -- The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team dropped the first game of the 2024 AMCC season to Alfred State this Saturday, Sept. 28.
Things went awry for the Mounties early, as the Pioneers would score the opening goal less than four minutes into the game. Despite the early misfortune, the Mounties would earn a few looks at the goal, out-shooting the hosts four to two in the opening half. However, the visitors would be unable to find the back of the net, going into halftime down 1-0.Â
The second half would be an Alfred State onslaught, as the hosts would out-shoot the visitors fourteen to one across the closing forty-five minutes. Scored on in the 67th minute, the Mounties would respond with a shot on goal five minutes later, but find the attempt scooped up by the Pioneer goalkeeper. Attempting to overcome the 0-2 deficit would prove difficult, with the Mounties struggling to maintain possession against consistent Alfred State pressure. The Pioneers would score the final goal of the contest with six minutes left to play, putting the Mounties away 0-3 at the end of regulation. The Mounties fall to 1-7-1 on the season, and 0-1 in AMCC play.Â
The Mounties continue conference play this Saturday, Oct. 1 against the Carlow Celtics. Carlow enters the contest 2-5-1, coming off a 4-2 win against Hilbert.Â
