WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- On Wednesday, the Mount Aloysius Men's Soccer team traveled to Lycoming for a matchup with the Warriors. The Warriors scored first and kept the advantage from there on out, on their way to a 2-1 victory.
Lycoming got the scoring started, in the 18th minute, to go ahead 1-0. The score came on their third shot on goal of the game. The two squads went to the half with the score still 1-0, as the Mounties only tallied two shots in the period, both of which were off the mark.
The Warriors picked up an insurance goal, in the 78th minute, putting them ahead 2-0. To that point in the contest, the Mounties had just one shot on goal in four attempts, to go along with one corner kick, giving them very few scoring opportunities.
Mount Aloysius would add two more shots on goal, with the final one netting a score. In the 89th minute,
George Campbell (Flinton, Pa. / Glendale) scored to bring the Mounties deficit back to one, with his first career goal. Unfortunately, there was not enough time remaining for them to create any more scoring chances and they would fall, 2-1.
Lycoming more than doubled the Mounties number of shot attempts and had four more corner kick opportunities, giving them ample chances in the one goal game. Mountie goalkeeper,
Sam Denchfield (Truro, England / Loughborough College), stopped four of the six shots on goal he saw in the match.
The Mounties will return home, on Saturday, when they will host Juniata. The game will be the first match of the season at Kelly Field, for the Men's Team. Juniata enters the matchup at 1-1-1, on the season, including a 5-0 victory over AMCC-foe, Pitt-Greensburg. Saturday's kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
