Cresson, Pa. -- Mount Aloysius women's soccer fell to the Bethany College Bison this Wednesday, September 4th.
The Mounties faced an offensive tidal wave, struggling to maintain possession while the Bison continually peppered the defense with shot attempts. Bethany found looks five times across the opening twenty-five minutes of action, keeping the ball comfortably inside the host's end. A change in fortune would come in the 25th minute, when a bobbled corner kick would be put in by senior
Sarah Swingler (Hanover, PA, Delone Catholic) giving the Mounties the one goal advantage on just their first shot attempt of the game.
The Mounties would have no time to stretch their lead, as the Bison would respond to the host's goal just three minutes later. Tied at 1-1, the first half would end the same as it began, continuous Bethany possession punctuated by a steady stream of shot attempts. The Mountie defense would hold strong through the final three shot attempts, sending both teams into halftime even.
The second half would see the Mounties immediately face increased offensive pressure, with rapid shot attempts resulting in the 55th minute score from the visitors. Bethany immediately looked to expand their lead, not content with the 2-1 deficit. Rapid substitutions kept the Bison legs fresh, and another side change would lead to a 68th minute score, putting Bethany up 3-1 heading into the final twenty minutes of action. Despite two great looks late in the game, the Bison goalkeeper held firm, ending the game 3-1 to the visitors.
Mount Aloysius returns to action with their first road game of the year, taking on the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets thie Saturday, September 7th. Waynesburg enters the contest 2-0 on the year, coming off a 2-1 win over La Roche.
