Offense Explodes as Mounties Down Carlow

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -  The Mount Aloysius women's soccer team put together a dominant performance on Tuesday afternoon, cruising to a 6-0 victory over Carlow University at Highmark Stadium in AMCC action.

The Mounties (4-6-3, 2-2-1 AMCC) wasted no time asserting control, with sophomore Emma Coble (Dover, PA, Dover Area) opened the scoring with her first goal in a Mountie uniform just 3:24 into the match off an assist from senior Jordan Bailey (Crofton, Md., South River). The early goal set the tone for what would be an offensive showcase for the Mounties.

Junior Brooke Thomas (Altoona, Pa., Altoona) added to the tally in the 34th minute with a smooth move inside the box and a precise finish to the lower left corner. Just two minutes later, Bailey got on the scoresheet herself, burying a PK to make it 3-0 going into halftime.

The Mounties kept their foot on the gas in the second half, continuing to apply pressure on the Carlow defense. Senior Natalie Despot (Hollidaysburg, Pa., Hollidaysburg) extended the lead to 4-0 in the 56th minute with a beautifully struck free kick from about 20 yards out.

Moments later, sophomore Kaylee Dowdell (Windber, PA, Windber) capitalized on a loose ball following a set piece, finishing from close range in the 64th minute to put the game well out of reach. Dowdell's goal was the first of her collegiate career. Thomas would complete her brace in the 78th minute with a top-shelf strike from 20 yards out, capping off an all-around stellar performance.

Mount Aloysius dominated in every statistical category, out shooting Carlow 26-7 (15-3 on goal), and winning the corner kick battle 6-2.

With the win, Mount Aloysius improves to 2-2-1 in conference play, 4-6-3 overall and continues their push toward postseason contention. They'll have a much needed off weekend, and then will host the La Roche Redhawks (5-6-1, 2-2-1 AMCC) next Tuesday at 7 PM at Kelly Field.
