CRESSON, Pa. - No. 4 Mount Aloysius will travel to Erie, Pa for a semifinal matchup with No. 1 Penn State Behrend on Wednesday, November 5th. Kickoff is expected for 3:00 pm.
How They Got Here:
Top-seeded Behrend enters the AMCC semifinals seeking its 12th conference title and second straight championship. The Lions rolled through league play with a 7-1 record (lost to UPG), earning the regular-season crown while outscoring AMCC opponents 25-6. They ride into the semifinal on a four-match conference win streak, led offensively by Reilly Nickles and Owen Petersen, who have each scored eight goals this season. Nickles leads Behrend in points (22), with Petersen close behind (20). Lions GK Anthony Scalise ranks second in the AMCC in save percentage (.778), goals-against average (0.92) and fourth in saves (49).
Fourth-seeded Mount Aloysius punched its ticket to the semifinal with a dominant 4-1 win over No. 5 Pitt-Greensburg in the opening round, scoring three goals in the first 33 minutes to take control early. Gonzalo Terricabris powered the attack with two goals and currently sits second in the conference with 12 goals and 29 points. Joel Martinez's seven assists on the year is tied for first in the AMCC. Both Martinez and Tanner Polcyn's eight goals are tied for seventh. Mounties GK Sam Denchfield ranks third in the conference in saves (51), fifth in save percentage (.708), and fifth in goals-against average (1.36). The Mounties enter the matchup at 11-5-3 overall.
The Lions got the best of the Mounties earlier in the year, winning the regular-season meeting 3-1. The two programs also met in last year's semifinal, where the Lions escaped with a 2-1 overtime victory on their way to the conference championship.
Mounties HC Matt Davis is looking for a trip back to the AMCC Championship in his first year back in charge after spending the previous three seasons at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa. Davis previously won an AMCC Title with the Mounties back in 2015.
