Mounties Set To Face La Roche In AMCC Championship Match

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The stage is set for the 2025 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) Men's Soccer Championship, as Mount Aloysius will face La Roche University on Saturday afternoon at the Baierl Athletic Complex in Pittsburgh, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.

Mount Aloysius (12-5-3) enters the title match following a hard-fought 1-0 semifinal victory over Penn State Behrend. The Mounties secured their spot in the championship game thanks to an early goal from Braden Callahan and a strong defensive effort that earned the team its seventh shutout of the season. The Mounties are looking to reclaim the AMCC crown after previously winning back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022.

For the first time in program history, the La Roche men's soccer team will be playing for an AMCC Championship, as the No. 2 Redhawks took down No. 3 Alfred State, 1-0, in a double overtime thriller. The match was a defensive battle as both teams limited quality opportunities over the first 100 minutes of play.

The lone goal scored came 3:42 into the second overtime, when La Roche freshman Abdul Basit-Suleman capitalized on a rebound, off an initial save that came off the foot of Aiden Mukanos-Kramer, lifting La Roche to the victory. Malvin Madzimbamuto leads the Redhawks in goals with 9 (T-3rd in AMCC), and tied for fifth in the AMCC in points.

Back on October 22, the Mounties and Redhawks played to a draw. The Mounties controlled much of the action, outshooting the Redhawks by a 10-3 margin in shots on goal. Despite creating several scoring opportunities, Mount Aloysius was unable to find the back of the net.

Series History:

  • The Mounties have a 10-3-1 overall record vs La Roche
  • The draw came just over two weeks ago, 0-0
  • In the last 10 matchups, the Mounties are 8-1-1.
