CRESSON, Pa. -- The Mount Aloysius men's basketball team earned an AMCC win over the Carlow Celtics (3-18, 2-11 AMCC) this Saturday, Feb 15. Guard
Will Hagwood (Willowick, Ohio, South) led all scorers with 31 points.
The Mounties would kick off proceedings with an efficient first half, shooting almost 60% from the floor and 43% from three as a team across the first twenty minutes. The Mounties would also defend aggressively, holding their opponents to 38% shooting from the floor in the first, taking a seven point lead into half time.
While the Mounties' shooting percentage as a team would recede, Hagwood would continue his offensive theatrics on high efficiency, going 10-14 from the floor and while adding in four steals. Hagwood's efforts would be met by forward
De'Von Haggans (Harrisburg, PA, Central Dauphin), whose 6-8 shooting night would earn him 22 points, adding in nine rebounds and four steals for an impressive two-way performance. The two would continually attack the paint, forcing Carlow into foul trouble. Hagwood and Haggans would combine for 26 free throw attempts, hitting 20 of them, while the Celtics would go to the line just seven times as a team. The Mounties would continue to control the game, stymieing Carlow comeback attempts, until a final pair of Haggans free throws would end the contest 87-82 in favor of the Mounties.
The Mounties return to action this Wednesday, Feb 19, at Pitt-Greensburg. The Bobcats enter the contest 16-7 overall and 10-4 in conference play, coming off an 83-82 win over Hilbert.
