Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Season Ends in AMCC Semifinal

ERIE, Pa. -- The #3 Mount Aloysius women's basketball team fell to the #2 La Roche Redhawks (21-5, 14-2 AMCC) in the second round of the AMCC Tournament this Friday, Feb 28. Forward Molly Kosmack (Homer City, Pa., Homer-Center) would lead the Mounties with a 16-point, 15-rebound double double.

The Mounties would face off against a strong defensive presence from tip-off. Held to 13 points in the first quarter, the Mounties would keep pace with their own defensive intensity, holding La Roche to 44% field goal efficiency as a team. Down 5 going in to the second quarter, the Mounties would twice even the score behind three pointers from guards Angelina Kohlwaies (Lake Worth, Fla., Cardinal Newman) and Annalyn Isaacs (Harmony, Pa., Mars), only for the Redhawks to improve their offense to 10-19 from the floor.

Down 11 after halftime, the Mounties would come out of the break focused, cutting the deficit to 6 points after four minutes of play. However, late turnovers from the #3 seed would again put the Redhawks up double digits, with La Roche entering the final quarter up 12. Turnovers would be a consistent struggle for the Mounties, ending with 21 as a team compared to 13 from La Roche. Despite a last push from the Mounties, the Redhawk defense would prove too oppressive, ending the Mountie season in the AMCC semifinal by a final score of 59-76.

The Mount Aloysius women's basketball season ends with the Mounties 17-10 on the season, tying the program record for wins in an NCAA season. This season also held  the Mountie women's record for most points in a game, setting the 104-point mark against Pitt-Bradford before breaking the record with a 105-point outing again against the Panthers later in the year. The 2024-2025 AMCC women's basketball championship will be decided Saturday, Mar 1, with #1 Penn State Behrend taking on #2 La Roche.
